The Long Reach of Government Security

The government has its fingers in everything, and it is necessary when you think about managing the nation’s infrastructure. Think carefully about securing the nation’s transportation system.

Guerry Bruner, an integration solutions specialists at ASSA ABLOY door security solutions, has written our cover story about securing transportation. He writes that intelligent transportation systems are vital to managing roadways, interstates, intersections, ports and much more. He aptly points out that physical security and cybersecurity must work seamlessly; however, it seems this is often overlooked and undervalued.

Take a look at his article where he lets us know where it all begins, especially a layered approach to infrastructure security. Bruner also writes about collaborative partnering, “offline” and “online” access control and the best of technology available.

There is no time like the present to ensure the security of our critical infrastructure.

We also feature an interesting story from Richard Brent, CEO of Louroe Electronics, about an installation at JFK International Airport in New York City. The security upgrade at Terminal One includes the deployment of more than 100 microphones, which will enable quality control at all 32 passport check podiums. This will verify interactions that CBP officers will have with travelers.

Brent also delves into the technology benefit, cost savings and a look toward the future of audio in the security space.
